Adoption Announcement – 5/16/2018

Hi there, Charlie here to share the great news that I have a new mom, a cat brother and sister and a fantastic new home!  In case you don’t remember, I came to Safe Place for Pets when my mom and dad passed away within 12 hours of one another.  In one fell swoop, I lost both parents, my home and pretty much everything I’d ever known, BUT because I am such a happy, friendly, and fun-loving guy, I had no trouble whatsoever finding someone new to fall in love with me!  Don’t get me wrong – I adore her, too – can’t you just see the smiles on both of our faces?!  Life is super again – my mom has already bought me stools so I can jump on the sofa and bed more easily and won’t tweak my sensitive back; there are toys everywhere and I’m learning to play tug and cool games like that; and she even bought me a doggy door with a special collar I wear that won’t let the cats, Barley and Hops, outside — isn’t that cool?!?!

I also have an extended family – I have grandparents with two Bichons of their own so I get to go on play dates with other dogs that look exactly like me – so fun!  Another thing that makes me super happy is my mom is so easy going – I started “marking” in the house so she just makes me wear a diaper when I’m home alone and everything is fine.  I don’t even seem to notice I’m wearing one, as you can see in my funny video – I’m all about breakfast and dinner time and nothing else phases me!  I’m looking forward to lots of fun this summer because mom is working to make the huge backyard super fun and I can imagine spending tons of time with her outside – woo hoo!

Safe Place for Pets would like to thank wonderful Linda and her adopted Safe Place dog, Pepper, for fostering Charlie and giving him a great temporary home while we worked to find Charlie’s new mom!  We’d also like to thank Brown Veterinary Hospital (a Safe Place for Pets partner vet), for Charlie’s wellness exam and vaccine to ensure Charlie’s excellent health!  Thank you also to the Safe Place volunteers who made Charlie’s snuggly blanket!  SP4P is so thankful for finding such a perfect family and home for precious Charlie and we wish you tons of wonderful memories together!!

Adoption Bio – 4/19/2018

Hello everyone – my name is Charlie!  I am an 11 year old, male, neutered cute little Bichon Frise that weighs about 12 lbs.  I am a friendly and sweet little guy, but can be a little shy – especially with all that’s going on in my life right now.  I spent most of my life with two wonderful parents who took excellent care of me, but sadly they both recently died while in hospice care — and the saddest part is that they passed less than one day apart.  Their grandson took me in and gave me a temporary home, but he cannot keep me so Safe Place for Pets is working to find me a new, loving forever home.

I like to go for walks and am good on a leash.  I was an only dog, but do get along with other dogs and might enjoy having a buddy somewhere around my age to hang out and play with.  I bark at cats so it would probably be best for me to be in a home without any.  My owners’ grandson has two young children and I got along with them great, but it might be better for me to be with older or even no children just so I don’t accidentally get fallen on, etc., and get hurt since I am so small.  My mom and dad were with me all the time so I really need to be in a home where people are around most of the time.  I am housebroken and will whine to let you know I need to go out, but I need to go out about every two hours or I’ll have occasional accidents.  I have a back issue that doesn’t bother me most of the time and it responds well to Metacam/Meloxidyl when I seem to be in pain.  All in all, I am a healthy, happy guy and I’m just looking for a new person/people to love and cherish me!  If you’d like to meet me and see if we might make a great match, please call Safe Place for Pets a call at 719-359-0201 or email them at  I can’t wait to meet you!
