Adoption Announcement – 2/10/2018
Hello, I was “Mikey,” but my new family (who officially adopted me today!!) decided I’m really “Charlie,” which is just fine with me!! I know it may sound cliché, but our happy ending really was ‘meant to be.’ My mom and dad had been discussing adopting a family dog and had looked around Christmas, but the timing wasn’t quite right. They knew they wanted a medium sized dog with a medium length coat that would be a wonderful family dog and then mom searched PetFinder and found me! She contacted Safe Place for Pets, but I was already scheduled to meet someone else and mom and dad were really bummed out, but happily for all, though I really wasn’t the right dog for the other person, the moment my mom and dad saw me, they knew I was the one for them!
Life has been so wonderful since that day! The kids love me and take turns letting me sleep in their beds, which I love! I snuggle up really close to them and we all sleep so soundly! My new brother, Ethan, loves to play fetch with me and is really working on helping me give the ball when I bring it back. Ethan also loves to play tug o war with me, which we think is such as fun game! Though I do love to play, I am also super good in the house and I do love to relax on the sofa with my family while they watch movies. My only “flaw” is that for 5 years old, I haven’t had any real obedience training so I still need to learn some lessons. Safe Place for Pets is going to help my family get the training I need and the family is also working on shake with me. They know I love cheese, peanut butter and baby carrots and I’m a smart guy who wants please them so between the yummy treats and the obedience work, I know I’ll catch on soon and be even more perfect than I already am!
Safe Place for Pets would like to thank Sandy and Elaine who both fostered sweet Charlie through this transition to his new forever home! We’d also like to thank Yorkshire Veterinary Hospital (a Safe Place for Pets partner vet), for performing a wellness exam and providing my vaccines. Also, a big thank you to the Humane Society for neutering Charlie. And finally, thank you to the Safe Place volunteers who made Charlie’s snuggly blanket. SP4P is so grateful to Charlie’s new family for giving him an amazing home and we wish Charlie and his family a wonderful, joyful life together!!
Adoption Bio – 1/13/2018
Hello – I am Mikey, which is short for Michelangelo!! I’m told that I’m such a “sweet and good boy” and I tend to agree! I am about 4-5 years old, and am an English Springer Spaniel mix and I weigh about 40 lbs. As you can see from my pictures, I definitely have the Springer Spaniel coloring/markings, but my body is long and my legs are short so I may be part Basset Hound or something – not really sure! I am currently not neutered, but the Safe Place for Pets folks have an appointment scheduled for me on February 8th so that will be a scary day for me, but my foster mom promises to take excellent care of me so I know I’ll be in excellent hands during my recovery!
I need a new home because my dad has cancer and he left Colorado to be closer to family as he enters hospice so he couldn’t take me with him. I am sad he is gone, but I am a very happy guy and I love people and know I’m safe with my wonderful foster mom! She knows I love to go for walks so she takes me a couple of times a day! I pull some and could use some help with leash training, but overall, I am well behaved. I may bark at another dog or try to chase a squirrel, but I do listen when mom tells me ‘keep moving.’ Even more than walks, I love to ride in the car! I get in the backseat, but will try to climb up front sometimes. I like other dogs and play very nicely with them, but I haven’t been around cats and I love to chase rabbits and squirrels so I may do best in home with just other dogs. I have been in a crate so we could also try that if you wanted to try me around cats…guess we’d just have to see how it goes!
I sleep with my foster mom and she even lets me under the covers sometimes, which is my favorite! I also love climbing into her lap when she’s sitting in her chair! I’d probably be happy lying beside you on the sofa or on a dog bed near you, if you prefer, but I just love to snuggle close! Mom says I’m very well housebroken and though she hasn’t seen me around kids, she thinks I would do very well with them. Maybe ones that are a little older/bigger since I’m a strong and solid fellow. I sure am hoping for a home where someone will love me, walk me, take me places and just spend quality time with me! If you would like to meet me, please contact Safe Place for Pets by emailing them at firstname.lastname@example.org or calling 719-359-0201. My pictures show how cute I am, but you need to meet me to see how happy, sweet and loving I am!
