Adoption Announcement – 10/17/2018

Hello!  Bliss here to share my wonderful adoption story!  For those who might not have seen me, I came to Safe Place for Pets as “Skipper” on August 17th and found the incredible woman who was to be my new Mom on August 20th!  You might be wondering, “How did that happen so quickly?” – well, my new Mom volunteers with her granddaughter at the Safe Place for Pets Welcome Center!!  They take wonderful care of the cats there, and they just happened to learn about me and wanted to meet me right away.  I can tell you, it was love at first sight!  My Mom lost her dog a while back, and knew she’d eventually have another one and that it’s name would be “Bliss” for happiness and great joy — so that’s what she named me and what we share every day!

My Mom calls me her “Velcro dog” and takes me everywhere she can…when I can’t go, I stay home with my 16 year old cat “brother,” Hunter.  Mom wasn’t sure how we’d get along because Hunter hadn’t been around dogs, but I lived with a cat previously and know to respect their claws!!  Luckily, Hunter is a very laid-back guy and we never had any issues – the very first night, I sat on one side of Mom on the sofa and Hunter sat on the other – no problems; easy peasy!  Mom loves walking me and we have such a great time!  I’m a super friendly guy so I love to meet new people and other dogs!  Mom’s taking me to obedience training and it’s been a great help for my confidence!  I’ve learned “wait,” “leave it,” and “sit”!  I used to lick my feet or people’s hands, but now Mom says, “Enough,” and I stop!  See, I’m not only handsome with such sweet and soulful eyes, but boy, am I smart!!  Beauty and brains for sure!!

Safe Place for Pets thanks Yorkshire Veterinary Hospital (a Safe Place for Pets partner!) for the dental care Bliss received to keep him as happy and healthy for as long as possible!  We also say, “Thanks!” to the Safe Place for Pets volunteers that made Bliss’ snuggly fleece blanket to keep him cozy this winter!  Congratulations again to Bliss and our wonderful volunteer/dog adopter – may you have a very blissful life together!!  😊

Adoption Bio – 8/17/2018

Hi, my name is Skipper!  I’m a super cute, friendly and sweet 7 year old male/neutered Terrier mix and I weigh about 20 lbs.  I will bark to alert you that someone is outside, but I quiet down nicely if you invite them into the house.  I LOVE my belly rubbed and I love to lie next to you on the chair/sofa and sleep with you in bed – so all in all, I’m the perfect lap dog to cuddle with, if that’s what you’re looking for!  I’m good in the house and have never been a chewer or at all destructive, though I will dig outside if left alone too long.

Some of my other favorite things are lying outside in the sun and mostly, just being with my humans!  I am mostly housebroken, but with my owners so ill, I’ve not been on a consistent schedule and have had occasional accidents.  I am used to my family being home with me a lot and that is what I prefer.  I’ve lived with another dog and a cat so I’m good with other animals and I like kids, but would be best with ones who’ll be careful of me since I’m pretty small.

I am a happy, funny, loving little guy and look into my soulful brown eyes – can’t you just imagine the things I would say if I could talk?!  If you would like to learn more about me or meet me, please call Safe Place for Pets at 719-359-0201, email them at info@safeplacepets.org, or fill out an Adoption Inquiry form under my profile.  I’ll be anxiously waiting to meet you!
