Adoption Announcement – 12/8/2018
Hello! Zorro here to share my joy — I’m so fortunate to have a new Mom and home!! I came to Safe Place for Pets when my ill Mom could no longer care for me and as it turns out, my new Mom lost both of her 14 year old miniature dachshunds earlier this year so needless to say, it was a very sad and lonely time for both of us! Luckily for me, my new Mom has such a kind heart and gentle spirit and she’d decided she “wanted an older dog to give joy and love to his ‘grey’ years.” Having experience with senior dogs, she knew all about the expenses and care that an older dog needs and she is prepared for that responsibility. Having a Mom that’s always had ‘low riders’ (as she lovingly refers to us doxies!) is so helpful because she knows all about making ‘snow-paths’ in the yard for easy bathroom breaks – and the cool dog door makes that even easier, and gives me the freedom to go out whenever I please and I LOVE to explore the backyard!
Though my Mom works, my new “Grandma” has always ‘babysat’ my Mom’s dogs so I go there each day while Mom’s at work! It’s a perfect arrangement because I LOVE being with people all the time, and I also have my Grandma’s poodle to share a little doggy companionship with! When Mom and I are home, we spend a lot of time snuggled up on the sofa together, which I can access easily because my foster parents were INCREDIBLE and my foster dad made the most wonderful ramp for me! Of course, Mom lets me sleep on her bed with her and I sleep so soundly knowing I am so safe and loved! When Mom answered the Safe Place for Pets advertisement about me, she wrote, “I would love to meet Zorro and see if he would be interested in me!” How could I not be?!?!? My new Mom is the best and I know I’ll be so loved and cared for for the rest of my years!!!
Safe Place for Pets would like to thank Fillmore Veterinary Hospital (Safe Place for Pets partner) for the advice in helping sweet Zorro lose a few pounds! We’re so grateful to Zorro’s fosters for walking him and watching his food and treat consumption and are so happy he is losing weight! Speaking of our incredible fosters, “Thank you so much!” to Brandy, Kyle, Dick and Jean for providing love and comfort to Zorro during his transition, and to Dick for making Zorro’s fantastic sofa ramp!! Finally, Safe Place for Pets is so grateful to Zorro’s AMAZING new Mom and family for her willingness to give an ‘oldie but a goodie’ a fresh new start!! We wish you many years of snuggling and a deep and special bond!!
Adoption Bio – 10/11/2018
Hello!! I’m Zorro, which is Spanish for “fox” – which I slightly resemble except that I currently weigh 40 lbs and definitely need to slim down to be more fox-like! I am a male, neutered Dachshund and am approximately 10 years old, but we’re not entirely sure about my age. I was rescued a few years ago by my wonderful Mom, but her illness has now progressed to the point she can no longer care for either of us. We are mutually heartbroken to leave one another and she and the rest of her family pray I will find another loving home very soon. I am a super cute and sweet boy who is housebroken, and due to my age and weight, I sleep a lot. I am quite particular about my sleeping requirements though – I LOVE napping on the sofa, and sleeping in the family bed! Though I have my own “dog” bed, I really want nothing to do with it and want to lie next to my people. I need help getting on the sofa and bed though so my adopters need strong backs to pick me up! I would struggle in a home with a lot of stairs – unless someone could carry me. I can do a couple of stairs just fine, but not a long staircase.
Though my legs are short and I have a little arthritis, my fabulous fosters took me for a quarter mile walk and I really loved it so a family to walk me and help me lose weight (and keep my joints moving) would be perfect! I also love being outside so I’d really love to have a nice backyard to explore. It MUST be secure though – I am quite a little Houdini and will try to escape under gates, sneak out doors, etc., if I think I can! I’m so used to being with my Mom all the time that I really need a home where someone is around most of the time. I’m not a barker, but I will whine if I can’t find you in the house, or sometimes if we’re lying on the sofa together and I want you to touch me. I just REALLY love to be loved on so if you’re looking for a great little guy to be your constant companion, I’m up for the task!! No one knows if I’ve been around cats or kids (older ones would probably be fine), but there’s another dog about my size at the foster home so I’d do well with a calm doggie friend or I’m fine as an only dog. If you’d like more information about me or to meet me, please call Safe Place for Pets at 719-359-0201 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. I can’t wait to find my forever home and family!
